2 people held diverting ISD calls to local

Hyderabad: The Falaknuma police with the cooperation of South Zone Task Force and Security wing of Department of Telecom (DOT) nabbed two persons on Sunday on charges of indulging in converting international calls to local calls illegally for their monetary gains and causing loss to exchequer and national security threat to the Government of India.

Police seized telecom set up, eight sim card boxes, one laptop, three cell phones and a car from the possession of the accused.

The accused persons were identified as Mohammed Amjad Khan and Yousuf Hassan.

According to the Falaknuma police, on scientific and technical analysis of ISD calls, the security wing of telecom department, Ashish Chugh had lodged a complaint stating the illegal diversion of international calls to local calls.

On a tip off, the police swung into action and nabbed the accused persons. Falaknuma Inspector, K Srinivasa Rao said Amjad had approached a retail sim cards seller Yousuf Hassan and requested him to provide pre-active Airtel sim cards to conduct his illegal business.

Amjad had also procured the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) devices or sim boxes through courier from China.

Later, with the internet connection he installed the telecom set up with the SIM cards which he procured from Yousuf Hassan and to avoid the interruption he had installed inverters with batteries at two places in Hyderabad, one at his residence and another at a rented penthouse.

Then he started receiving international calls and he used to de route the calls using VoIP and used to earn huge money from the callers.

The accused had been indulged in this illegal work from past six years and earned Rs 1.44 crore which is loss to the government. Both the accused are been produced before the court for judicial remand.
