2 policemen injured after accused snatched weapons and fired: VC Sajjanar

Two of the suspects snatched weapons from the police and fired at them, said the Cyberabad police chief VC Sajjanar explaining what had led to the encounter.

The suspects were brought to Chatanpalli to reconstruct the crime scene where they attacked the police with stones. Areef and Chenna Keshavulu snatched the guns from the police fired at them. Though they were warned to surrender, they intensified the attack by the surrounding the police following which the police retaliated and gunned down them, Sajjanar said adding that two policemen were also suffered injuries. 

"The encounter took place between 5.30 am and 6.15 am. Around 15 policemen fired at the accused and killed them for self-defence. The suspects were also believed to have involved in several criminal cases in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh," the police chief said.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission issued notices to the Telangana police on the encounter. A team will be sent to the state to probe the encounter.
