2,635 thandas made panchayats: Harish

Medak: Finance Minister T Harish Rao participated in various programmes as part of 'PallePragathi', here on Monday. He laid foundation for several development works. He distributed tractors to the panchayats. Speaking on the occasion, he said no one would have imagined that the villages could develop to this extent. The idea of chief minister to transform villages in 30-days was a wonder, he remarked.

Elaborating the development in several fronts, he said Telangana has been the model in many states in the country. "We developed 2,635 thandas as panchayats in which 63 are from Medak district. Distribution of 12,751 tractors to panchayats is a great achievement. We are spending Rs 339 crore on panchayats every month," Harish said.

As many as 80 tractors have been distributed in the district in two phases. Harish said that dump yards and graveyards should be completed in every village. He told sarpanches and village secretaries to improve their working style.

The minister also said that Medak and Sangareddy districts were competing with each other in development. The Malkapur village has become a model in the country, he added. The minister directed the officials to serve memos to the panchayat secretaries who were absent from this meeting.
