Vemulawada: The construction of double bedroom houses at Turkasinagar of Vemulawada rural mandal, Sircilla district is going on at a snail's pace with the alleged negligence of the contractors and local representatives.

The State government started construction of 40 double bedroom houses under its prestigious 2BHK housing scheme for shelter-less poor people in Turkasinagar village one year ago.

80 per cent of works were completed and laying of roads, construction of bathrooms and fixing of taps along with giving power supply connections are in pending. But the works are stalled for the past six months.

The officials identified as many as 110 beneficiaries, who are shelter-less in the village and sanctioned 40 double bedroom houses in the first phase and started the construction works last year.

The villagers alleged that the construction works were stopped for six months due to the negligence of contractors and local representatives. Only 20 per cent of works are left, but the officials and local representatives are not exerting pressure on the contractors to finish the works at the earliest, they pointed out.

J Sambaiah, one of the beneficiaries, said, "Despite a 2BHK sanctioned, I am still living in a small hut with my family as the officials didn't allotted the house as some works are still pending." The officials were not even checking the progress of construction of these houses. Lamenting that the rains are causing him and his family to live in miserable conditions, Sambaiah requested the officials to complete the works as early as possible and allot him the house.

Meanwhile, R&B department Divisional Engineer Suresh Babu said almost all the works related to 2BHK houses are completed except a few minor works, which will be completed in one month.
