2nd local contact case takes Telangana state total to 33

Hyderabad: Telangana has registered the second locally transmitted coronavirus case. A 23-year-old male student, who came in contact with the 10-member Indonesian group in Karimnagar, was found to be infected with the virus on Monday taking the total number of Covid-19 positive cases to 33.

Emphasising the need for remaining indoors and to follow restrictions imposed during lockdown period till March 31, Minister for Health Eatala Rajender said that the government was doing its best to contain the virus and people should understand their social responsibility for the their safety as well as that of their family members and neighbours.

A close watch by Karimnagar district administration was being kept on all the family members of the 23-year-old locally transmitted person. The first such case was reported in Secunderabad a few days back.

Also, for the first time a passenger who returned from Sri Lanka tested positive to the virus. Of the remaining four new cases, two passengers had travel history from London and one each from the USA and France.

While all the cases were of the male gender, (P28 to P32) are in the age group of 20 to 30 years while P33 is 56 years old. According to the Health bulletin issued by Director, Public Health, the health condition of all the six new cases is stable.

Health authorities informed that the health condition of all 32 positive tested patients is good with no one on ventilator support. After discharging the first positive case, authorities stated that some of them who are on road to recovery would be discharged after following the recommended testing protocol again.

Meanwhile, it has come to notice of the Health department that 70 foreign returnees, mostly from the state capital, were found to be ignoring home quarantine instructions.

The Health department sought the help of local police station where the concerned person's house is located and accordingly cops counselled them on the need to strictly follow the directions failing which strict action could be taken as per the law.
