30 jail inmates get degrees in Warangal

Warangal: It was a proud moment for 30 inmates of the Warangal Central Prison. Their months of hard work paid off on Wednesday when they received degree certificates.

Greater Warangal Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao, who presented the degree certificates to the inmates, heaped praise on Telangana State Prisons Department for its efforts to channelize the lives of prisoners.

"The Telangana State Prisons Department has become a beacon for other States in the country by implementing several reformative besides taking proactive measures for the welfare of the inmates," he said.

No one is born criminal. It is the circumstances that make one so, the Mayor said, stating that prisons in the State have been working hard to correct them. Make use of all the facilities provided by the jail authorities, he said, referring to the Unnati scheme aimed at curtailing recidivism. "Script a new chapter in your lives," Prakash Rao told the inmates.

Warangal Central Prison Deputy Superintendent D Kalidasu said that their efforts to correct the prisoners are yielding results. The number of ex-inmates coming back to jail has decreased considerably, he added. District Child Welfare Committee chairman Mandala Parashuramulu said that there is no need for prisoners to feel inferior.

The prisoners have facilities to learn and earn in the jail, he said.

Jailor Sakru Naik, Rama Krishna Reddy, Deputy jailor Ramesh, M Srinivas, Local corporator Elagam Leelavathi, Citizen Forum State committee member G Raj Kumar, social worker S Praveen Kumar and T Purnachander Rao were among others present.
