5 arrested in gang-rape of woman in Hyderabad

Five people were arrested by the city police for raping a woman here under Pahadishareef police station limits. The police also took eight others into custody for helping the accused to commit the offence.

Getting into the details, the woman and her husband were employed in a poultry farm at Harshaguda four months ago and have been residing there. However, the woman's husband Chandu picked up a quarrel with the owner Prashanth Reddy over non-payment of salary and decided to quit the job.

Enraged over Chandu's behaviour, the poultry owner Prashanth Reddy, his brother Anil Reddy and three others identified as Bharath, Pavan and Hanmanthu thrashed Chandu and sexually assaulted his wife.

Based on the complaint lodged by the couple on Thursday, the police registered a case and sent the woman to Osmania General Hospital for a medical examination. The police arrested 13 members in connection with the case and are looking out for the other two who are absconding.
