The Faluknuma police on Thursday arrested six persons for allegedly getting a minor girl married to a 57-year-old girl. While the victim was rescued by the police, the elderly man has gone absconding.

According to the police, the 16-year-old girl was residing with her aunt Hoor Unnisa at Teegalkunta after her mother died a few years ago. The girl's father was remarried and was residing at another place in the city. Hoor Unnisa along with her husband planned for the girl to marry off to a rich man and they found a man from Kerala with the help of two brokers -- Mohammad Abdul Rahman and Waseem Khan.

On December 27, Hoor Unnisa and others took the girl to the office of Qazi Mohammed Badiuddin Quadri at Malakpet and to formalize the marriage. However, the marriage was brought to the notice of the police by the girl's step-brother. The police formed into special teams and arrested six persons and launched a hunt to nab the groom who fled from a lodge where he was staying before the police reached.

The police registered a case and launched an investigation.
