Electricity bill of Rs 7.29 lakh of Srinivas

Kamareddy: Srinivas, a farmer from Isrojiwadi village of Kamareddy district, got the shock of his life when he received a Rs 7.29 lakh electricity bill.

The TSNPDCL staff didn't take meter readings in March due to Covid-19 lockdown and NPDCL outsourcing agency started issuing demand notice for payment of bills by calculating the total reading of electricity used by domestic users from February 18 to June 9.

In this process, Srinivas got the current bill amounting to Rs 7,29,471 lakh. He was both surprised and saddened, who uses one fan and three bulbs only. He consumed 165 units only from December 21, 2019 to February 18, 2020 and his billed amount was Rs 414 only. His monthly current bill never exceeds more than Rs 500.

The department surprised not only Srinivas but ten others of this village, who received electricity demand notice on Tuesday (June 9), who are worried as they had got bills for lakhs of rupees.

When contacted, Transco AE said there was nothing wrong with the meter readings. He assured the villagers on Wednesday that their electricity bill will be corrected if they haven't used more power units after checking their meters.
