76% land under farming post ample rains in Kothagudem
Kothagudem: The farmers in the district have taken up farming with adequate rainfall in the first week of August. The rains boosted the agriculture activity as nearly 76 per cent of land came under cultivation in the district as per the latest statistics available. According to District Assistant Director of Agriculture department Abhimanyudu, the farmers have taken up cultivation of various crops in nearly 97,998 hectares.
He informed that the district has an average 1.24 lakh hectares under cultivation in Kharif season every year. Due to lack rainfall in June and July, the farmers have not shown interest in taking up farming activity. However, with abundant rainfall in August first week, the mood of the farming community changed and the farmers expressing happiness over rains took up the agriculture activity, he said.
While paddy cultivation is taken up in about 24,313 hectares as against estimated extent of 43,334 hectares, maize is being cultivated in 6,386 hectares as against 6,304 hectares, cotton in 46,524 hectares as against an estimated land of 46,477 hectares, Abhimanyudu informed.
