A mother who stitched her son's future

Bhupalpally: In the back alleys of coal town Bhupalpally, a woman for over a decade has been working overtime to see her son make a mark in the academics in pursuit of giving him a comfortable life. Empati Kushwanth, who knows his mother's toil behind the sewing machine for a living, did not disappoint her securing All India 55th rank in the NEET, 16th rank (open category) in the JIPMER and first in the TS EAMCET.

Kushwanth also secured 19th rank in the AIIMS entrance test and is all set to get a seat in the country's premier medical education institute. Life has not been kind to Anitha as she had to fight singlehandedly against all odds. She lost her husband, Laxminarayana, an employee with Singareni Collieries in Godavarikhani, more than a decade ago in a road accident.

With no significant support from her relatives, she decided to move to Bhupalpally with her two sons – Kushwanth and Srikar - and bank on tailoring profession which she is adept of. Indeed, it was a brave and challenging move especially for those single parents. Kushwanth did his schooling in Montessori School in Bhupalpally town.

With Kushwanth showing brilliance in academics, his mother got him joined in Sri Chaitanya College, Hyderabad. Even though the corporate education is expensive considering the family's financial status, but it was not to be for a determined mother like Anitha. All that she wanted was to see his son scale academic heights.

After Kushwanth put up a massive show in the first year Intermediate, the college management shifted him to the toppers' batch besides providing a fee concession.What followed after Intermediate for this mama's boys is a history. He not only cracked NEET securing 55th All India rank, but also confirmed a seat in the prestigious Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, regarded as next best after All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.

Speaking to The Hans India, Kushwanth said: "It's all because of my mother who toiled day and night for me. Right from the childhood, she used to tell me that I will become something only when I work hard. My life is built up on the sweat and toil of my mother."

Kushwanth whose aim is to become a neurosurgeon said that he will join JIPMER in Puducherry if he fails to get a seat in the AIIMS, Delhi.Although Anitha feels that she has enough stamina left in her to toil for her sons, the immediate challenge before her is raising finances for Kushwanth's higher education.

Meanwhile, TRS working president K T Rama Rao, in a Tweet told the Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Collector Vasam Venkateshwarlu to examine the matter and send details of Kushwanth who is in dire need of financial assistance. Against this backdrop, Kushwanth met the Collector and waiting for assistance.
