Hanamkonda: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) celebrated its 70th Foundation Day as Student Day here on Tuesday. A large number of students led by State joint organising secretary K Saibabu and State working committee member Punnam Venu took out a rally from Kakatiya University X Roads to Ambedkar Circle.

Speaking on the occasion, Saibabu said that ABVP as a students' organisation was established on July 09, 1949 in Mumbai with a vision to co-ordinate and direct the youth's power towards the process of national integration and reconstruction. "Since the inception of organisation, it promoted patriotism among the students. It also churned out quite a few great leaders who served for the cause of nation," he said. "With 35 lakh active members pan-India, the ABVP is one of the world's largest students' organisation," Saibabu said.

Referring to Sama Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was allegedly killed by the members of Radical Students Union (RSU) in Warangal in 1982, Punnam Venu said that ABVP stood upright despite facing attacks by the Naxalites. Even against odds, the organisation stood like a rock, he added. "The ABVP's contribution in the statehood agitation is also significant," Venu said.

He said that ABVP is the only organisation that has been fighting against the State government on students' issues. Later, the students hoisted organisation flag. Senior student leaders Ganesh, Madhukar, Rohit Sai, Arun, Ishwa Ganesh, Ruthwik, Manoj, Praveen, Chandu and Dhanush were among others present.
