Accused in Aler woman's murder case held

Yadadri-Bhongir: Police cracked the murder case of woman Neelamma of Aler town on February 1 and arrested the accused, Yedla Bhaskar.

Yadadri-Bhongir DCP Narayana Reddy briefed about the murder and the arrest of accused during a press meet held at his camp office in Bhongir. According to the DCP, Neelamma (50) and her daughter Anjula have been residing at Kranthinagar in Aler town for the last many years.

While Anjula was practising tailoring, Neelamma used to stay at home. The accused Yedla Bhaskar of Veldi village of Raghunathapally mandal of Janagaon district has been working as a motor mechanic. He came to Aler town a month ago and got acquainted with Neelamma and used to visit her house very often.

Bhaskar, who was in financial crisis, planned to rob Neelamma's gold by killing her when is alone at home. On February 1, Bhaskar called her over phone and after confirming that she was alone at home, he reached Neelamma's residence and started a conversation with her.

Soon after she sat in a cot, he strangled her and made away with three tolas gold chain and earrings. He sold the stolen gold for Rs 60,000 at a jewellery shop in Janagoan and cleared all his debts. Aler police, in their investigation, inquired about the visitors to Neelamma's house on the day of her murder. On a tip off, the police arrested Bhaskar while he was at a jewellery shop in Janagaon and recovered Rs 23,000 cash and 0.5 tola gold ornaments. The accused confessed to his crime during the police investigation. The DCP appreciated the police officials and staff who cracked the case.
