Act against SCCL for violating rules, sarpanch Budidha Mallesh demands in Peddapalli

Peddapalli: Take action against Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), which is violating the environmental and biodiversity rules and exploiting the right to live action in the region, demanded Budidha Mallesh, Sarpanch of Nagaram village of Manthani Mandal of Peddapalli district.

Mallesh alleged that due to Singareni open cast, which is present very close Nagaram village, air, water, and soil in the region are polluted. People are suffering from various kinds of health complications like joint pains, diarrhea and some lost hearing ability due to the sound. Apart from that, some of them even died after suffering from a serious illness caused due to pollution, he added.

The region, which was covered with thick forest in the past, is now turning into a barren land due to pollution emitted by Singareni open cast present in this region, he pointed out.

Due to blasting in the open cast, a few people lost the hearing ability. Many are suffering from various kinds of health complications, diarrhea, joint pains and the like after drinking the water in the region, which was polluted due to the pollutants that were released from the open cast. Even the animals living in this region were also died due to health complications, Mallesh added.

Sarpanch B Mallesh submitted a complaint to PCB Regional Manager Ravidas and demanded immediate action to be taken against the SCCL management.

After taking the complaint, the PCB authorities had issued notices to the SCCL and ordered the officials to submit compliance to the stipulated conditions of the Consent Order and EC within seven days. Otherwise, an action shall be initiated against the industry under the relevant provision of the Environmental Protection Act, 1986 in the interest of Public Health and Environment, it warned.
