Adilabad braces for civic polls

Adilabad: Election battle is expected to kick off soon with the indications that the elections to the municipalities are likely to be held by July-end. The term of present civic body councils will come to an end by July 2.

The government is expected to introduce the new municipal law and merge several villages with municipalities in some districts.

The government is yet to begin the exercise reserving wards for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes, besides women. All the Municipal Commissioners may be called for a meeting. In Adilabad municipality, KRK colony, Anukunta, Housing Board, Dasnapur, Belluri villages have already been merged with the municipality. With this, the number of wards in Adialabad may go up to 41 from present 36. Proposals have sent to the government to convert Utnoor major gram Pachyaat into municipality.

In undivided Adilabad district, there are 12 municipalities. They are there Adilabad, Nirmal, Bhainsa, Mancheiral, Kagaznagar and Bellampalli. Asifabad, Khanapur, Kyatanapallli, Chennuru and Luxettipet are newly formed municipalities.

In Mancherial district, villagers in Timmapur expressed their opposition to merger of their village with Kyathanpalli municipality.
