Adilabad Collector dispels fears about EVM's security

Adilabad: District Collector and Returning Officer D Divya on Tuesday dispelled the apprehensions of political parties about the safety of EVM and VVPATS stored in Adilabad.

Addressing a meeting with the representatives of recognized political parties, the Collector said three-tier security arrangements have been made for the safety of EVMs and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines in the strong rooms.

She said that EVMs, VVPATs that were used in the election for the Adilabad Lok Sabha seat are stored at TTDC, Polytechnic, Social Welfare Girl Residential College under three-tier security. She also said that the Election Commission divided EVMs and VVPATs into four categories A,B,C,D. The EVM and VVPAT used in elections come under the category a, and the EVMs which had broken down in the middle of polling categorized under B and were stored in the strong rooms she said.

And the EVMs which stopped working in the middle of mock polling stored at Shantinagara and the reserved EVMs which were not used come under D category by the Election Commission and were sent to Medchal, Malkajgiri, State and central warehouses.

The Collector also said that the political parties representatives can see the strong rooms located in Adilabad town any time. Soon identity cards will be issued to them.

Joint Collector G Sandhya Rani, Revenue Divisional Officer Suryanarayana, recognized political party's representatives BGovardhan Reddy, Sajid Uddin, Anjaiah, Gangareddy, Ramu and others were present.
