Alarming surge in Covid-19 cases in Telangana stings Central team

Hyderabad: The Union Government has expressed unhappiness on the poor measures taken by the Telangana government in the containing Covid-19 pandemic.

Concerned over the growing number of corona cases, the Centre has asked the TS government to formulate an action plan for the next two months and initiate strong steps to check the spread of virus.

A central delegation led by Joint Secretary to Ministry of Health Department Lav Agarwal visited the State and took stock of the situation at ground level. The team also visited Telangana Institute of Medical Science, Gachibowli, Gandhi Hospital and a containment area.

The central team enquired the officials the reasons behind the increasing number of positive cases in Greater Hyderabad limits. The team officials also questioned the State officials for not taking immediate steps.

The delegation suggested State Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to focus on containment measures by increasing testing capacity, tracing and clinical management in the State.

The team also asked the government to prepare an action plan for the next two months keeping in view of the likely increase in the cases.

The Central team shared their field visit experiences in other states with the state officials.

The Health department made a detailed presentation on the steps taken on Covid-19 management in the state. The surveillance and containment measures, hospital preparedness, procurement of protection equipment, preventive measures were briefed to the central team.

The officials said that the state has a capacity of 17081 beds. 4489 additional staff has been recruited to strengthen the treatment.

An amount of Rs 475.74 crore has been sanctioned towards strengthening medical infrastructure. Several other health officials were also present.
