Amangal: A leopard had attacked three calves and killed one of them in the fields of a farmer near Kodamgutta forest region in Amangal mandal of Ranga Reddy district on Monday.

According to sources, Venkataiah of Kondagutta village had tied his cattle and buffaloes in a shed in his fields. The calves were tied separately from the main cattle for safety.

However, on Monday early morning, a leopard from the nearby forest region had attacked the three calves and killed one of them, while severely injuring the other two.

"This is not the first time. The Amangal mandal and its surrounding villages have been facing the threat from wild cats for the last many years. Despite our repeated requests with the forest officials, no one has come forward to rescue our cattle from the wild cats," said Venkataiah.

The villagers said that they had spotted two to three leopards prowling in the Amangal region for the past many days.

However, though the forest officials are aware of this, they had not taken any measures to stop the wild cats.

Instead, they are advising the farmers to be cautious and protect their cattle by tying them in the closed enclosures rather than leaving them in the open.
