An opportunity to serve nation
Hyderabad: Newly appointed Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said the new responsibility is an opportunity for her to serve the nation. She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, working president JP Nadda and BJP Tamil Nadu leaders for being a guiding force.
Tamilisai, 58, gynaecologist by profession, is presently the BJP chief of Tamil Nadu. Her husband Dr P Soundararajan is also a doctor and presently the Head of Nephrology, Saveetha University.
Prior to her switching over to politics, she worked as an assistant professor at Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai for 5 years. She was a visiting consultant at many multiple hospitals. Tamilisai became interested in politics from childhood, having been brought up in a political family.
Her father Kumari Anandan is a former MP and senior Congress party leader in Tamil Nadu.
She was elected as a student leader during her studies at Madras Medical College. Though belonging to a leading, traditionally Congress Party, she was attracted by BJP ideology and started working full-time for BJP.
She served the Tamil Nadu state BJP unit in various capacities starting from South Chennai District Medical Wing Secretary in 1999, All India Co-Convenor (Medical Wing For Southern States) in 2005, and elevated as National Secretary, All India BJP in 2013.
