Appoint workers under NREGS: Collector Dr A Sharat
Jagtial: District Collector Dr A Sharat hsuggested the officials concerned to employ workers under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) on the basis of job cards for 50 to 60 per cent of development works that are under progress in villages.
He held a review meeting on NREGS that was implemented in the district, at the Indian Medical Association hall in Jagtial on Thursday. Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said that it is the responsibility of field assistants and village sarpanches to look after the works in the village panchayat after employing workers under the scheme.
He ordered the staff concerned to conduct meetings with Swashakti groups and village sarpanches in all villages and the works under Employment Guarantee Scheme must be analysed under the leadership of sarpanch and secretaries. He told the officials to discuss with sarpanches where the works are required, any new works to be taken up etc and rules and regulations that are framed must be handed over to Swashakti groups.
Stating that there must be nurseries in around 380 villages compulsorily under Haritha Haram, Sharath told them to take a copy from sarpanches, if any of them is not interested in maintaining nurseries in his village.
Under Haritha Haram, workers will be paid wages and also to those, who maintain nurseries along with supplying water to the saplings through water tankers. This information must be conveyed to sarpanches, ordered the Collector.
Sarpanches must identify the areas where there are vacancies of field assistants posts and submit the details to district officials so that necessary steps would be taken up for filling these vacancies, he added.
Assistant Project Director and District Panchayat Raj Officer Srilatha Reddy, Project Director and Rural Development Officer Bikshapathi, field assistants, engineers and consultants were present in the review meeting.
