Mahbubnagar: Ashamed of the elopement of their younger sister's elopement, four unmarried girls from a family committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Cherlapally village of Jadcherla mandal on Thursday.

Going into details, Venkatiah and Masamma of Cherlapally village were having six unmarried girls and were in search of the suitable match for their girls and were planning to get them married one by one.

However, two days ago, the 5th girl eloped with a person and got married without intimating their parents. As the girl was not seen for the past two days, the worried parents lodged a complaint with the police. Later they came to know about the elopement of their daughter.

After learning about the incident, remaining 5 girls felt that it was a black spot on their family and went into deep depression. The girls feared social stigmatisation and were depressed that nobody will come forward to marry them anymore and they planned to commit suicide all together.

As planned the 4 of the 5 remaining girls pushed their mother and smallest sister out of the house and locked themselves inside and consumed pesticide.

Over this, the mother and her little daughter shouted and called for the help, the neighbours and the villagers with a great difficulty broke open the doors and rushed all the 4 girls to Government hospital. Three among the four are said to be in critical condition as they have consumed excess pesticide.
