Bandh: Life comes to standstill in Khammam

Khammam: The all-party bandh passed off peacefully in Khammam district on Saturday. The police had already arrested the Joint Action Committee leaders on Friday night before they could participate in the strike. In view of the state bandh, all the parties' leaders holding converged on the RTC bus stations and staged protests. They did allow any bus to come out of the bus stands.

The police had made all special security arrangements in the six bus stations in the district. Police arrested the leaders who staged protest at the bus stations. Nearly 500 numbers of CPM, CPI, New Democracy, BJP were arrested by the police in the district.

Due to the State bandh, shops, petrol bunks and cinema halls and others were closed since morning to evening. In the district headquarters of Khammam district, the RTC workers staged protests with playing Bathukamma, kabadi, and kho-kho in the bus stands.

In the temple town of Bhadrachalam, CPI leaders burned Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's effigy at Ambedkar Centre. In Penuballi mandal, the Revenue staff extended their support to the RTC strike by sporting black ribbons.

In Kothagudem, all Left parties took out a massive rally in the town. A large number of leaders and supporters participated in the rally and extended support to the RTC strike.
