Bathukamma vibrancy is back in Warangal
Warangal: The folkloric vibrancy of Bathukamma that showcases the unique culture of the region is back with women clad in traditional clothes turning to temples in large numbers across the erstwhile Warangal district on Saturday.
The nine-day festival that begins on Mahalaya Amavasya, also known as Pethra Amavasya, with Engili poola Bathukamma was inaugurated by Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud at the ancient Thousand Pillar temple in the presence of Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Satyavathi Rathod, Government Chief Whip D Vinay Bhaskar, MLA Nannapuneni Narender and others.
The city that looked sleepy till the late afternoon suddenly came to life in the evening with scores of women out to throng nearby temples to play Bathukamma. The district administration made elaborate arrangements to prevent any discomfort to the women who in large numbers gather at temples especially, at historic temples – Padmakshi temple, Thousand Pillar temple and Bhadrakali temple.
It may be mentioned here that the celebrations go on for nine days culminating with Saddula Bathukamma. Meanwhile, authorities spruced up the historic Thousand Pillar, Bhadrakali and Padmakshi temples.
