Good response to online video mulakats of prisoners

Bhadrachalam: Online video mulakats were getting appreciation from family members of the prisoners of Bhadrachalam special sub-jail.

Sub-Jail officials have given the opportunity to prisoners as well as their family members to talk to each other through video call for eight minutes for one time and can talk several times after getting permission from the authorities. Prisoner's family members should register their names on 'e-prisoner' website and later should click the national prison portal and enter Aadhar number and the details of the prisoner, whom they want to meet.

This new system is very useful for the family members of prisoners, who were in sub-jail as all the family members can talk with him/her from house by making video calls and can talk up to eight minutes for one time. The officials will allow video mulakats depending on the family member's request applying through online 'e-prisoners' portal and the officials will approve their request depending on the availability of time.

Family member of a prisoner said that it was wonderful as all the family members have spoken with their kin, who was in the prison, from their house without going to sub-jail and waiting a long time. Even NRIs and those staying within India can also talk to their kin by requesting authorities through the online portal.

According to Bhadrachalam sub-jail Superintendent K Aanand Rao, online video mulakats are getting good response and also improving good behaviour in prisoners. He said they have noticed good behaviour and happiness among the prisoners after talking with their family members through video call.

This facility was introduced on November 28 and till date about 40 prisoners got an opportunity. Stating that a help desk was setup for this, the superintendent informed that it is the first sub jail in the erstwhile Khammam district to start this facility.
