Bhongir: Attempt to perform minor girl's marriage thwarted
Bhongir: A child marriage was prevented with the intervention of local Anganwadi staff. This incident took place on Friday at Chandupatla village of Bhongir mandal in Yadadri-Bhongir district.
Anganwadi teacher Bhagya said they have received information that Narasimha and Lakshmi couple were performing marriage of their minor daughter at Chandupatla village. Bhagya stated that the girl is studying tenth standard and her age is 16. The Girl Child Protection Committee and local Anganwadi staff went to the residence of Narsimha's house and stalled the marriage, she stated.
Anganwadi supervisor Mahalaxmi informed the parents of the minor girl that performing a child marriage is a crime and punishable as per the law. She gave counselling to the girl's parents and explained the ill-effects of the child marriages. Village sarpanch Chinnam Pandu, MPTC Bokka Kondal Reddy and local police were present.
