Big competition for local body polls

Hyderabad: As leaders are quite enthusiastic to contest in the rural local body elections, more than one candidate has filed nominations for each seat from Congress and TRS in the first phase of polls to the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC).

They are hopeful of getting the official nomination of the party and remained in the fray. The actual candidates of the main parties would be known after the announcement of the official nominees by the State Election Commission.

According to the statistics being announced by the SEC, for the 199 ZPTCs that would go to the polls in the first phase 1,835 valid nominations have been filed. Out of them, 618 belong to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, 480 belong to Congress and 269 belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

As per the rules, only one official candidate is allowed to contest.

Accordingly, 199 out of the 618 candidates, who filed nominations on behalf of TRS, would be official candidates. Rest of them has to withdraw their candidature. If not they would be treated as rebels.

In the same way, out of the 490 candidates who filed papers on behalf of Congress 199 would be official ones. Out of the 269 candidates, who filed from BJP 199 would be official candidates.

In the MPTC first phase polls also for 2,166 seats about 12,826 have filed papers. Out of them 4,768 filed papers on behalf of the TRS, 3,601 from Congress have filed nominations.

Out of the 4,768 candidates of the TRS, only 2,166 would be official nominees. From the Congress also 2,166 would be official nominees out of 3,601 candidates who filed the papers.

As per the rules, the candidate who has been officially announced as party candidate would be considered as party candidate by the SEC.

The political parties would issue B Form, or party ticket, to the official nominee and it would be submitted to the returning officers. The candidate, who has submitted the B Form, would be announced as official nominee.

In Adilabad district for the 9 ZPTC seats about 13 have filed papers on behalf of the TRS, 10 from the Congress and 12 from BJP.

In Mancherial district for 7 seats, 34 filed papers on behalf of the TRS, 24 from Congress and nine from BJP.

About 100 candidates from TRS have filed papers on behalf of TRS for 7 seats and 17 filed papers from Congress in Khammam district. In Nalgonda district for 10 seats 53 filed papers on behalf of TRS and 52 filed nominations from the Congress.

As far as MPTC elections are concerned in Nizamabad district, 400 filed papers from TRS for 100 seats and from Congress about 387 are in the fray. In Warangal Urban district, about 149 have filed on behalf of TRS and 99 from the Congress.
