Big relief for buyers as onion prices dip in Hyderabad

Onion price which touched Rs 200 per kg in the city is seeing a fall in the price for the last three days. With the new crop reaching the market and importing onions Maharashtra is the reason behind the price decrease. Currently, the onions imported from Maharashtra are being sold at Rs 70 per kg in Malakpet market.

In the districts like Medak, Sangareddy, Mahbubnagar, onion is being sold at Rs 50 per kg. However, the price of old onion from Maharashtra remained unchanged and is being sold at Rs 100 per kg.

On Thursday, around 8,103 quintals of onion reached to Malakpet market, according to a Grade-3 official Narendar. Around 40 per cent of area cultivating onion has been decreased this year and the untimely rains damaged the crops which hiked the onion prices across the state.

On the other hand, onion at Erragadda Raithu Bazar is being sold at Rs 40 per kg from 4 pm to 7 pm. The good quality onion is being sold at Rs 70 per kg, normal quality at Rs 50 per kg and the low quality at Rs 25 per kg by the Self Help Groups.
