Bird flu: Five peacocks found dead in Medak
Around five peacocks were found dead in Medak district of Telangana causing panic among the local villagers. The incident came to fore after a herdsman found the dead peacocks and alerted the forest officials.
Officials of the department of animal husbandry suspected that the peacock might have been dead due to indigestion. The forest officials were also informed and the samples have been sent for testing. Death of the birds triggered scare among the nearby villagers in the view of the bird flu outbreak.
In Warangal Urban district, 120 chickens have died in a span of two months in in Koppur of Bhimadevarapalli mandal of Warangal Urban district. The chicken belonged to one Gadda Saraiah who said that he was raising them for the past few months and suffered a loss of Rs 1 lakh with their death.
The sample of birds have also been sent to Hyderabad for testing.
With the bird flu scare, the chicken sales have been dropped in Hyderabad by 20-30 per cent due to the decrease in demand. However, no traces of the infection has been found yet in Telangana.
