BJP accuses TRS MLAs of failing to stop loot by private schools

Hyderabad: BJP State unit president K Laxman on Tuesday charged ruling TRS MLAs with lacking enthusiasm to mount pressure on the State government to stop the loot by the private corporate schools.

Addressing a protest meeting organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha BJYM) at Indira Park here, he said parents are furious over the corporate schools enhancing fee.

Poor, middle and upper-middle-class families were being pushed into a debt trap as they were forced to borrow money to pay ever skyrocketing school fee, he said.

The State government failed to act despite several organisations like Hyderabad School Parents Association (HSPA) and others organising agitating over the issue.

The ruling party MLAs had miserably failed people by not mounting pressure on their own government to contain the school fee loot in the State.

Laxman said the school fee hike in State, particularly in Hyderabad, had increased by 400 per cent in the last five to six years when compared to the metro cities in the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai.

He said promises of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to bring Common School System (CSS) implementing compulsory education for all from KG to PG remained a mirage even after five and half years of the formation of separate Telangana.

Laxman criticised the Chief Minister as he had proposed to spent Rs 500 crore for a new secretariat and Rs 100 crore a new State Assembly buildings, but he has no money to give appointments to the TRT candidates and pay salaries, he said.

H also questioned the State government for keeping under wraps the recommendations of the Tirupathi Rao Committee on School Fee Regulation and accused the government of supporting the private corporate school education in the State.
