BJP activist murdered in Devarkadra

Mahbubnagar: An activist of Bharatiya Janata Party was allegedly murdered by the activists of Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Dokur village of Devarkadra mandal in Mahbubnagar district in the early hours on Wednesday.

According to Devarkadra police, it is said that in Dokur village, Ramakrishna Reddy from TRS and Ram Bhupal Reddy from BJP contested the MPTC seat. However, during the election campaigning. Ramakrishna Reddy's brother, Srikanth Reddy, entered into an argument with a BJP activist, Prem Kumar, over an issue of sticking a poster on the walls of the house belonging to Prem Kumar. Srikanth Reddy bore a grudge against Prem Kumar and was waiting for the right time to attack him.

On Tuesday, after the conclusion of counting, the BJP contestant, Ram Bhupal Reddy, won against TRS candidate. The BJP activists to celebrate the victory of their candidate conducted a victory rally in Dokur village. After the rally, when a group of BJP activists, who were partying on the outskirts of the village, returning to their village, they were allegedly intercepted by TRS activists who attacked them with deadly weapons causing grievous injuries.

However, late in the night, the BJP activists got into a fight with the TRS activists over the issue. In the melee, Srikanth Reddy, who brought with him a knife, attacked Prem Kumar and stabbed him causing grave injuries. The severely injured Prem Kumar was immediately shifted to Mahbubnagar hospital. However, he breathed his last on the day and was declared brought dead by the doctors.

"We received a call late in the night regarding the murder case and we immediately swung into action and deployed necessary force in the village to ensure the situation does not escalate. We have booked a case and launched a thorough investigation. Very soon we will take the culprits into custody. Five people have been identified as suspects and we have launched a hunt to nab the culprits," said Venkateshwarlu, SI, Devarkadra.

Mahbubnagar Superintendent of Police Rema Rajeshwari said that they have already formed five teams to trace the culprits. One team has been sent to Raichur, while the remaining teams are doing basic enquiries in Devarkadra. Already five suspects have been taken into custody and interrogation is going on. "We have registered a case under IPC 302 and Sections 147, 148 and 120B. A thorough inquiry is going on and very soon, we will arrest the culprits involved in the heinous act," said Rema Rajeshwari.
