BJP launches save 'Musi' campaign

Hyderabad: BJP Telangana State unit president Dr K Laxman on Saturday launched a long-term "Namami Musi River" (NMR) also called as 'Save Telangana Ganga' campaign aiming to mount pressure on the TRS government to take required measures for the conservation river from the growing pollution.

The BJP leader performed puja at Anantagiri in Vikarabad district.

Addressing the gathering, Laxman exhorted people to keep the river, which is also known as "Telangana Ganga" clean.

Hyderabad's once mighty river has been reduced to a big sewer due to indiscriminate urbanisation and lack of proper planning besides open for untreated domestic and industrial waste.

There was a need to inculcate spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had launched a project to clean "the historic and sacred Ganga".

He alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao did not keep his word of continuing the agitation till the government cleaned the Musi river which flows through five districts in the State.

The people affected due to pollution in the Musi river are suffering from various diseases, he stated.

Taking a dig at the chief minister, Laxman alleged that Chandrashekar Rao had promised to clean the picturesque polluted Hussain Sagar and filled with coconut water.

But the Hussain Sagar was getting polluted more due to industrial wastage as the government failed to control major industries, who are dumping wastage in nalas which directly connected to Hussain Sagar.

"Promise and Forget" is the theory of the chief minister to fool people, Laxman lamented and warned that the BJP would continue the agitation till the government fulfilled its promise of cleaning the Musi.

Laxman said his party would organise a programme at Bapu Ghat in Langer House and later go to Tank Bund on Monday and party workers would break coconuts.

As part of the NMR agitation programme, party leaders would also visit the Musi in Suryapet on December 17.
