Hyderabad: State BJP is to announce its candidate to the byelection to the Huzurnagar Assembly segment in a day or two. According to the party sources, a total of eight candidates are competing for the ticket to contest on the BJP ticket in the bypoll.

There is a proposal to field Shankaramma, the 46-year-old mother of Srikanth Chary, her son, who was the first among the students set himself ablaze, in support of separate Telangana cause.

However, the party has not taken any decision yet. "Several local leaders and young have joined the BJP in the last six months. All of them are working for the party and they are hoping to contest in the bypoll," said a party senior leader.

Adding, there is about 10 per cent of Scheduled Tribe and around another 30 per cent of backward classes population in the Assembly segment. People are ready to support the party, provided, the saffron party fields a prominent face. People who are against the ruling TRS are ready to throw their weight behind the BJP as it had happened during the parliament elections.

Depending on the candidate of the BJP in the fray, several local leaders from the Congress are also likely to shift their loyalty in favour of the BJP. "Considering these equations, the BJP might spring another surprise to the TRS winning a second seat in the State Assembly," said another leader from the party.

Speaking to The Hans India, another senior party leader and member of the State Core Committee said, "The party is looking into all the equations and will certainly field its candidate. The name of the candidate will be announced in a day or two," he said.
