Hyderabad: State BJP chief official spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao said on Friday the party welcomed the direction of a court in Karimnagar to the police to file first information report (FIR) against AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.

Addressing the media here, he said, "It is a slap in the face of the police and has reminded them of their limits and responsibilities."

Krishna Saagar Rao alleged that the Majlis MLA had repeated his anti-Hindu statements at Karimnagar meeting recently as he is being protected by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his government.

This made him to move freely in Telangana districts and make statements insulting Hindus and Hindu society.

He said earlier Akbaruddin was remanded in custody for 40 days for his statements against Hindus in Nirmal. However, the MIM leader had obtained bail in the case.

But, the State government under the TRS government had not filed a charge-sheet against him since 2014. In turn, this emboldened Majlis leader to repeat his anti-Hindu rhetoric at a meeting held recently in Karimnagar, he pointed out.

Krishna Saagar Rao further alleged that on the one hand, KCR is protecting the MIM leaders when they are insulting Hindus, on the other, he is conducting Yagas ahead of the GHMC elections.

This exposed the double standards being followed by the TRS chief, he said.

He further said the BJP has no objection to individuals performing pujas, yagnas as per their religious beliefs.

However, in the name of yagam, the TRS chief should not misuse the government administration. The Chief Minister should not leave governance and peoples' issues to winds while conducting yaganas at such a large-scale like kings, spending public money ahead of elections, making it look like more a 'public relations exercise' and to use it as an election weapon.

People in the State are seeing it as "Rajakiya Yagnam" and "Elections Yagnam," he added.

The BJP leader said a city BJP leader Karuna Sagar had also filed a petition in a sessions court in the city seeking cancellation of bail given to the MIM MLA.
