Call for active leadership role for rural development

Hyderabad: Telangana State Governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan gave a call for the active involvement of leadership at district, block and panchayat-level and stressed on the need to be capacitated at frequent intervals so as to align them to the changing policy approaches and make success of the programmes.

Inaugurating 'Sustainable rural development initiative through panchayats' programme organised by the National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) here, she said that the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) is an innovative platform made available by the government to enable sustainable rural development.

The GPDP process has been streamlined in a campaigned approach during the last two to three years and ensured massive participation of the local leadership and people for planning and execution of the sustainable rural development initiatives in the country, the Governor added.

Training and capacity building and research by NIRDPR require to be further accelerated so as to harness the huge youth power in the country, Tamilisai said the passionate work of the faculty and supporting staff of this institution is utmost important.
