Cantonment Diary
Loco pilots & chai pe charcha
Loco pilots have a fondness for the Irani chai at Alpha Hotel opposite Secunderabad station. It has a become a ritual of sort to have a cuppa before starting the train. Now with hardly any trains running, most of the time is spent at the station; hence the number of trips for chai has also risen. Clad in spotless whites, one may mistake them for cricketers at the hotel. It is for the first time that they are spending more time on ground than on the train.
SCB gets a new CEO
B Ajith Reddy is to take charge as the CEO of Secunderabad Cantonment Board. He will be taking over from SVR Chandrasekhar who has been transferred to Delhi Cantonment. The residents and board members heaved a huge sigh of relief as a Telugu speaking officer would hold fort. North Indian officers have always found it difficult to communicate with locals.
Extension for SCB members
The eight board members of Secunderabad Cantonment Board received an extension for a period of six months which would end in July. Their term came to an end in January this year. Thanks to Covid-19 pandemic, the chances for an extension seem imminent.
The members have been going all out to complete road and drainage works in a bid to impress the locals.
Devotees thin at temple
The Ganesh temple which used to teem with devotees throughout the year wears a pale shadow of its former self. The corona virus scare has kept people off from visiting the temple. God helps those who help themselves, said one of the temple priests.
