Cantonment road restrictions lifted

Secunderabad: The restrictions imposed on the roads in Secunderabad Cantonment after the Pulwama attack has been lifted after a directive from the Southern Command.

The residents of Yapral, Bolarum, Kapra, ECIL, Malkajgiri and beyond were the worst affected as they had to take a detour and many had to travel anywhere between 6-8 kms longer.

CS Chandrasekhar, secretary, Federation of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) said, "FNECS hopes that this decision will be implemented quickly at all barriers and gates, and that all roads will be reopened immediately to civilian traffic and pedestrians.

This will give immense relief to the lakhs of civilians staying on the eastern side of the cantonment, and also to visitors to these areas from the western side.

He further added that the remaining roads at Lakdawala Crossing, Ammuguda Crossing and Eagle Chowk Crossing would also be opened to civilians.

FNECS requests immediate reopening of these important arteries to civilian traffic and public transport, as was the case before these roads were closed a few years ago.

It may be noted that 90% of forces serving and retired actually stays in civilian areas outside the cantonment.
