Centre to approve IIM for Telangana

After the Telangana government made a request to approve IIM for Telangana, the Prime Minister's office directed the central ministry to look into the proposals made by the government. The PMO asked the ministry to take a decision in a week.

However, the HRD ministry is said to have prepared the proposal this week and is awaiting the final stamp of approval. The institute will be located in Hyderabad. If everything goes well, IIM will be approved for Telangana five years after formation.

As per the AP reorganisation act, an IIT, NIT, IIM, IISER, central university, petroleum university, agricultural university and IIIT will be accorded to Andhra Pradesh while a tribal university and horticulture university is set to get for Telangana. However, IIM will be approved for Telangana on the chief minister's request.
