Children tread on tough road for education in Kamareddy
Kamareddy: Going to school is an everyday challenge for these aboriginal children as they must walk six kilometres to reach their school and they say its like a nightmare to walk through muddy fields and road.
Vellutla Thanda, as called by locals, is located on the suburbs of Vellutla village, Yellareddy mandal, Kamareddy district. The Thanda is five kilometres away from the village. There are about 36 houses and a population of 265 people in the Thanda. There are no basic facilities like road etc. Particularly in rainy season, road connection with the nearby villages is completely cut-off.
About 15 children of these families go to school but with difficult. They have to struggle to walk on the mud filled road. Their clothes will become dirty with mud. Ketawat Prakash of the Thanda said the little children have to walk on the muddy road for about six kilometers to continue their studies.
This is not the problem of school-going children alone. Other people also face equal trouble in transportation. If anyone gets sick, others have to carry the sick person on their shoulders to the nearby village or town as there are no bus facilities for this Thanda.
About 18 pregnant/lactating women are getting medical and other facilities provided by the government in the Anganwadi centre located in this Vellutla Thanda. About 23 children aged below six years get nutritious food.
But transporting these women to a government hospital for monthly check-up is a big worry for the anganwadi staff and also for the family members. This lack of road facility reportedly increased mother and infant mortality rate.
The residents of Vellutla Thanda are requesting the government and officials concerned to provide minimum transport facility.
