City Commissioner Anjani Kumar's tweet on triple riding stings netizens

Hyderabad: A tweet by Hyderabad City Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Monday claiming that Hyderabad police booked 331 cases of triple-riding on Sunday, attracted sharp reaction from people.

Many people started complaining about the condition of roads and questioned the officials whether they can also complain about the pathetic situation of roads on the given number.

In his tweet, the Commissioner noted, "Safety on roads is a top priority. Help us to have better road safety. Avoid triple riding on bikes.

Yesterday, traffic police booked 331 cases of triple riding. Your life is precious for the country. Have a safe ride. Never do triple riding. Send pics on 9490616555."

The moment the stats were tweeted, netizens started pouring in with their own grievances and to counter the officer's tweet. One Saad Yousuf replied, "Yes Sir, our lives are precious. Help us in having better roads too.

Potholes, broken roads, deep excavation without barricades, non-working signals, etc… public is complaining about it. Can we share these pictures on the no. too???"

His tweet was seconded by one, Siva Krishna Giri Babu, who tweeted that, "Sir, the autos are not at all following road rules, how irregularly they are driving, for normal driving people it is difficult as autos and 2 & 4-wheelers are overtaking from left side, due to which accidents happen."

The other netizens who felt the brunt of the Commissioners tweet, also noted that, enforcing new MV Act will solve the problems and another user tweeted that, the wine shops are the first rule breaker of traffic rules, because they don't follow any rule and the customers park their vehicles recklessly and after boozing the persons are ready to fight with anyone who opposes them.

Overall, the Commissioner's tweet garnered a lot of appreciation and also criticism from different quarters.

Now, it's up to the department to implement the law properly and it's also the responsibility of citizens to follow the traffic rules, said Prof B Balaswamy of Communication department, Osmania University.
