Warangal: The civic body has started to work on increasing its revenue to provide more infrastructural facilities to denizens. In pursuit of this, Greater Warangal Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao on Tuesday conducted a review meeting with the civic officials to explore ways to increase the income of the Corporation.

Referring to the mutation of property in Greater Warangal limits, he told the officials to rationalise the existing fee of 1.5 per cent on apartments and 0.20 per cent levied on denizens. He instructed the officials to focus on collecting user charges bringing all commercial complexes, theatres, hospitals, bar, restaurants etc.

"Of the more than one lakh municipal water tap connections; there are only 500 odd that come under commercial connections. The officials need to identify tap connection related to commercial establishments and levy tariff accordingly," Prakash Rao said. He said that there was a need for setting up a dog sterilisation centre in Warangal in addition to the existing one at Hanamkonda. The officials were told to call for tenders for deploying special teams of monkey catchers to address the monkey menace. Referring to damaged roads in the city, he directed the officials to repair them. "We have plans to construct a modern guest house in place of the existing one," the Mayor said.

The Mayor directed the officials to raze the dilapidated houses. The civic body also discussed about the rehabilitation of the street vendors, besides taking measures to turn Warangal a plastic free city. Referring to the scarcity of staff in the Corporation, Prakash Rao told the officials to write a letter to the State Government to fill the vacant posts. He told the officials to come up with suggestions that increase the income of the Corporation.

Municipal Commissioner N Rai Kiran, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ch Nageshwar, RFO GV Narayana Rao, SE Bikshapathi and MHO Dr Raja Reddy were among others present.
