Civil Supplies chief urges FCI to allocate required warehouses
Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Commissioner Akun Sabarwal has urged the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to allocate required warehouses for rice storage in Telangana State.
Commissioner Akun Sabharwal held a meeting with the FCI officials on Friday to discuss the storage problems in the State.
The meeting was attended by FCI General Manager Ashwini Kumar and other officials. It was decided at the meeting that the FCI and the Civic Supplies Department would work together to coordinate with the districts and overcome storage problem.
Commissioner said that the State's annual grain yields are on the rise and this year, the Civic Supplies is targeting to buy 55 lakh metric tonnes in Kharif, 37 lakh metric tonnes of grain in Rabi in the State.
"With the start of the Kharif season this year, we are ready to hand over 11 lakh metric tonnes of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) of the Rabi last year," Akun Sabarwal said.
The dues receivable from the FCI were Rs 888 crore and RD cess Rs 95 crore should be immediately sanctioned, Commissioner Akun Sabarwal told FCI officials, who reportedly responded positively.
The FCI officials have expressed their willingness to take up the issue of storage in the joint Karimnagar and Kothagudem districts.
The FCI officials have appealed to the Commissioner to consider the instructions they are making in view of the need for grain procurement and rice storage.
