CM KCR meets Hardeep Singh, urges to expedite five airports in Telangana

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao met Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on his second day of visit to Delhi and urged the minister to expedite the process of setting up five more airports in Telangana. He also asked to help the state government in finalizing the sites besides granting all statutory clearances on a single-window basis.

Chandrasekhar Rao in a letter submitted to the minister said that the state government can commence the infrastructure work once the statutory clearances were given.

The Chief Minister recalled that after the formation of Telangana, he had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up more airports in the state as it has only one airport at present in Hyderabad.

Telangana government has initiated works to create additional domestic airports at Basantnagar in Peddapally district, Mamnoor in Warangal Urban district, Adilabad district, Jakranpally in Nizamabad district, Devarkadra in Mahabubnagar district and Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.

In 2018, an official proposal was sent to Airports Authority of India (AAI) for feasibility reports after the discussions which indicated that initially no-frills airports for small aircraft will be developed which would be expanded later for commercial operations based on demand.

Rao said that though the AAI has already taken up the Obstacle Limitation Surface Survey, soil testing and other investigations at the sites and some drafts reports have recently come, the final reports were yet to be given.
