Hyderabad: The Congress and the CPI leaders on Monday addressed a joint press conference at the CPI State office here. All India Kisan Cell vice-president and senior Congress leader M Kodanda Reddy and CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy addressed the media.

Speaking to the media, Kodanda Reddy said there were no ideological differences between his party and the CPI. He also said the two parties had worked together several times in the past on several public problems.

He recalled that the two parties had also contested the 2018 Assembly elections jointly. He said there were some mistakes leading to the defeat of the grand alliance.

He said the Huzurnagar byelection was very critical for the Congress and for democracy. He also said the CPI favourably responded to their request to extend support to the Congress candidate.

CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said they forged an alliance with the Congress in 2004 and 2018 Assembly elections. He said the distance between the two parties increased after the 2018 Assembly elections.

He also recalled that the left party had fought for separate Telangana State along with the TRS earlier. He said they would discuss and declare their decision after consulting all the party leaders.

He made it clear that the Communists alone could teach a befitting lesson to the "communal" BJP.
