Congress is still strong in Telangana: Uttam

Update: 2019-05-24 20:24 IST

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and elected MP from Nalgonda Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed that the Congress party was still very strong on the ground across the Telangana State.

In an informal chat with media persons on Friday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party was expecting victory on at least six out of 17 seats in Telangana. However, he said that the party won three seats, but lost on other seats with a small margin. He said his victory from Nalgonda and the victory of Komatireddy Venkatreddy from Bhongir and A. Revanth Reddy from Malkajgiri have instilled new enthusiasm in the party cadre.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party was the only alternate for TRS in Telangana and BJP's victory on four seats was purely coincidental and fortunate for those candidates. He said BJP was unable to secure its deposit in 100 out of 119 seats which shows its real existence on the ground.

He said there was no discussion on change in the PCC. However, he said he would fulfil whatever responsibility the party assigns him and even if he is not given any responsibility, he would work to strengthen the party at ground level. He said the election results have clearly shown that the exit of any leader does not impact the prospects of the party at any time.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said arrogance never last long in politics. He said it was the arrogance of Chief Minister K. Chandhrashekhar Rao that turned his tall claims of winning 16 seats hollow and TRS could win only 9 seats, two seats less than 2014.

The TPCC Chief also claimed that the Congress party would also win the MLC elections from Nalgona Local Bodies. He said that the situation has now changed and KCR's lucrative and intimidating tactics on opposition would not work anymore.
