Congress loses its grip on Adilabad district

Update: 2019-06-18 01:43 IST

Adilabad: The Congress party situation in the district became worse as the Assembly election results have repeated in Panchayat and local body elections.

The party had appointed District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents to strengthen it during the Assembly polls, which didn't work out. Party cadre are in a difficult situation when the Congress lost its third position in Lok Sabha elections, which suffered the worst defeat in the Assembly polls. The absence of party cadre, leaders ignoring cadre and second-rung leaders shifting loyalties to the ruling TRS could be quoted as some of the reasons for the party's situation in rural areas.

All these made the Congress to lose its grip on the cadre and rural areas.

Congress leaders and activists have been clinging to the party for the past five years, hoping that they will come to power in the recently held elections. After the tragic defeat in Assembly elections, they lost their hopes.

Another point for the cadre to lost interest in the party is the internal fights among the party district leaders, which became a headache for them. Due to group politics, the district leaders didn't show interest in gram panchayat elections.

In Adilabad, Boath and Khanapur constituencies, several leaders are trying to join the ruling TRS with the help of the followers of local MLAs. They thought that there was no other option for their political career, since there are no elections for another five years, except for municipal elections. This led to mass joining are taking place during MLAs' visit to their respective constituencies.

Senior leaders said that these defections will cause great loss to the party in rural areas and afraid that Congress may get totally wiped out in the district.
