Congress refutes cash seizure rumours about Vishweshwar
Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Spokesperson Dasoju Sravan on Thursday strongly condemned the rumours spread by a section of media, allegedly at the behest of ruling TRS, against Congress party's Chevella Parliamentary Constituency candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy.
He was speaking to media persons after a delegation comprising Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, G Niranjan, M Kodanda Reddy and himself submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar.
Sravan said that a section of media has carried out fake news items linking Vishweshwar Reddy with an irrelevant case of cash seizure. Without any proof or evidence, the news channels, at the instance of police and ruling TRS party, ran flash news about seizure of Rs 15 crore.
"This is highly intolerable. On the directions of some TRS leaders, few police officials have given the wrong feed of information to a few reporters triggering spread of fake news to tarnish the image of Vishweshwar Reddy. The Election Commission should take a serious note and ensure that stern action is taken against all those involved in the act," he demanded.
Meanwhile, Vishweshwar Reddy, in his petition to the CEO, condemned the deliberate attempt to defame him. "I am filing a defamation suit straightaway but, in the interim, would request the Election Commission to ensure that nobody tarnishes my image a day before polling through falsehood and fabrication," he said.
Vishweshwar Reddy also clarified that the person whose name was used in the news item has worked with him on patents and other legal cases. "They claim he was related to me which is not true. He had a family wedding and was found in a mall with his children and wife. He was carrying cash (less than Rs 10 lakh) to my knowledge for which he had declared sources," he said.
Sravan alleged that the ruling TRS has stooped down to the lowest level and has been targeting the Congress candidates only due to the fear of a humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha elections.
