Yalal: A police constable's love for plants made him popular in the region. Saleem, constable from Pagidipalli village, planted a seed of red gram a year ago. It grew into a tree. To everyone's surprise, the single tree yielded several kilos of produce. He cut the tree and planted some seeds again in flowerpots. Again, the seeds grew into huge plants.

Tandur is well known for its red gram. Farmers grow the crop in a large scale. The quality red gram is transported to different states from this region. Saleem said, "I just wanted to try. You know red gram is easily available seed. I used compost fertilizers and it kept growing."

Passersby, especially people who are aware of this crop, are watching the tree curiously. Some farmers commented that had they never seen such a big red gram plant. A farmer said the agriculture officers should explain them about the crop and plants. They are hardly available for us, he lamented.
