Contain spurious seed menace, DRO tells revenue, police officials in Kothagudem

Kothagudem: District Revenue Officer Kiran Kumar stated that Preventive Detention Act would be slapped against traders who sell duplicate seeds to farmers. Speaking at an awareness meeting conducted by the Agricultural Department, with the Revenue, Police officials and seed agencies representatives at Kothagudem Club on Monday, the DRO asked to department officials concerned to take measures to prevent selling of duplicate seeds in the district.

He also ordered the officials to keep an eye on shops besides conducting sudden visits and verifying the seeds stocked at the shops.

Kothagudem Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DSP) SM Ali said the police department was taking all measures to curb the menace. He directed the police officials to check the receipts and also examine the stock points.

Assistant Director Agriculture Department Abhimanyudu appealed to the police and revenue departments to extend cooperation to agricultural officers and contain selling of spurious seeds.

Agricultural Officers Abdul Begum, Lal Chand, Tata Rao, police officers and dealers attended the meeting. Later, the department released wall posters to educate farmers with regard to spurious seed menace.
