Warangal: Beware! Next time when you are on roads avoid driving your vehicle at high speed as the cops are armed with traffic speed laser guns to identify over speeding motorists.

In what is termed as a move to bring down fatal accidents, the police on Friday introduced speed guns to keep a tab over speeding motorists.

Inaugurating the speed guns near National Institute of Technology (NIT) here on Friday, the Commissioner of Police V Ravinder said: "There is a multi-fold increase in number of vehicles in Warangal.

To keep a tab on increasing number of accidents, we have introduced speed guns for the first time in Warangal."

"The speed guns would help us identify the speedsters and reckless drivers. The speed gun captures the photos of the over speeding vehicles.

The owner of the vehicle would be intimated through SMS regarding the offense and the penalty to be paid through the e-challan," he added.

As of now, there are 6.5 lakh vehicles in the tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet. Every year 30,000 odd new vehicles are being added to the tally.

We are going to use a speed gun each in East, West and Central zones. The motorists will have to cough penalty if they exceeds the speed of 30 kmph on the city roads and 80 kmph on the highways, the Commissioner said.

Traffic ACP Md Majid, inspectors Narsaiah, Swamy, Hasnain and sub inspector Lakshmi Narayana among others were present.
