Hyderabad: The alarming rise in number of road accidents involving minor drivers has at last caught the attention of the city police. Minor drivers are described as "human bombs" as they are causing scare on roads to motorists.

The ghastly accident under Bowenpally police station limits in the city on Sunday night once more brought into sharp focus the calamitous consequences arising out of minors taking the wheel and driving the vehicle rashly.

The minor driver, who along with his friends, who are also minors, while driving the four-wheeler recklessly, killed 14-month-old boy, at Cantonment check-post on Sunday night. The child is one of the twins born to Ch Sandhayakiran and Chandrasekhar couple.

On Sunday Sandhyakiran along with her two twins, Mahadev and Madhav, and her mother Nagamani (65) took an auto-rickshaw to go to Yapral. When they reached to Bowenpally X roads, the vehicle driven by the minor, aged 16, crashed into the auto-rickshaw and two other bikes.

The child, Mahadev, died on the spot and her mother Nagamani died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital on Monday. Sandhyakiran and the bike riders too were seriously injured in the accident though they did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The minor driver and his three friends fled from scene of the accident. The horrific accident has once again highlighted the apathy on the part of the police and the officials of the Road Transport Authority in strictly enforcing traffic regulations.

It has also pointed to the failure of parents in keeping control over their children as far allowing them to drive vehicles without proper training.

The minor drivers maiming and, in some cases killing innocent persons has been causing misery to several families. In some case, the families are losing their breadwinners.
